It’s been out for several years now, but what I found compelling was that, amidst the *total* collapse of their world around them, literally crashing down around their ears, the (in)ability of the “true believer” to recognize that this was, in fact, the end of the world as they knew it (TEOTWATKI?)
After years of war, watching their world gradually torn apart, they remained too close to, too tied into the belief systems, too willing to continue believing propaganda, to see reality which none of them were prepared for.
Only, once it was too late, did they resolve to take the only courses of action that remained: take off the uniform & escape or blow their brains out.
Probably preaching to the choir here, but I suspect the consequences of the national choices we’ve made are so obvious and frightening, that most want nothing to do with preparing for reality. It’s much easier to resign oneself to “the end”, accept all the lies & open another bottle, than to ‘do something’ and effect real change.

Snoop-Diggty-DANG-DawgAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2525805265193933357.post-18530279606000521872012-08-01T20:29:26.333-04:002012-08-01T20:29:26.333-04:00Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg - totally agree. Good points, all good stuff! Like you said, simple is often best.

I agree a good quality revolver is always a fantastic choice because of its simplicity and reliability. A good quality lever action rifle isn't a bad choice either. the only downside that I can see to a lever action rifle might be the slow-to-load tubular magazine and the tendency of people to short stroke the lever under stressful situations. But practice with it such as competing in cowboy action sports would alleviate that tendency.

Thanks again - appreciate your dropping by and reading and commenting!Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16639972889243130169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2525805265193933357.post-13837158452250085252012-08-01T16:26:14.423-04:002012-08-01T16:26:14.423-04:00I appreciate your solid advice in these posts. It...I appreciate your solid advice in these posts. It’s valuable stuff for folks new to firearms & don’t know where to start.
One of my guiding/cornerstone principles for all preps & planning is simplicity. Wherever possible, I eliminate unnecessary / redundant / complex parts & systems. To that end, I place high value on common caliber pistol/revolver and rifle systems.
One of my favorites is a stainless steel .357 revolver with a .38/.357 lever action rifle. Very simple. Eminently controllable. Readily available, reliable & cheap. Something you can pass on to your grandchildren.
My other is the fantastic CX4 (as you mentioned) married to a 92FS, both in 9mm using common magazines. On the CX4, I mounted a fixed power, 2x20mm, scout scope, co-witnessed with iron sights.
No night vision, no red dot, no batteries required. Between the butt stock mags & the 92FS, I can easily carry over 100 rounds without even trying. It’s not worth much beyond a 100yds, but really…what is it I’m going to be shooting at beyond 100yards again?... Like you said, it’s certainly not cheap. But honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever regretted paying a little more for good gear that does *exactly* what I want.
Snoo-Diggity-DANG-DawgAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2525805265193933357.post-91427374539135982902012-08-01T15:35:38.219-04:002012-08-01T15:35:38.219-04:00Good post. Another consideration for "bad times" is that shotguns are far & away the cheapest, least-regulated, most readily acquired, customizeable(sp?), accessorizable(sp?), never-to-be confiscated weapons out there.

And they're truly devastating. Mine is a 12 ga. 3" magnum. Anyone that gets hit with 15 x 33-caliber pellets will not come back for 'seconds'.

Snoop-Diggity-DANG-DawgAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2525805265193933357.post-70547139335486725512012-07-16T08:53:30.590-04:002012-07-16T08:53:30.590-04:00Great points Snoop! Of course they have many failed attempts and yet to get the success, but their effort can't be under estimated. The difficult task like this can't be achived in a day. Every failure will teach them a lesson and will provide new ideas. This will help Russia to take a renewed attempt with more sophistication.Sher Khanhttp://hindisms.org/sms/hindi-love-smsnoreply@blogger.com
